Fibromyalgia, also called fibrositis, is a chronic debilitating syndrome impacting 3-6 million people in the US. Affecting mostly women, this syndrome is a collection of manifestations that often incapacitates its victims. Some associated signs & symptoms includes, hypersensitivity to pain, multiple locations of pain and tenderness, brain fogginess, or trouble sleeping.
Fibromyalgia Risk Factors
There are a number of elements that may increase the chances of developing this condition. A few of those include older age, pre-existing arthritic conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis, repetitive stress, obesity, and or a previous family history of this condition. Fibrositis is often triggered by post- viral infections as well.
There a many ways fibrositis can affect individuals and finding the correct diagnosis can be frustrating. Loss of independence, loss of work, and decreased quality of life, all reinforce a person’s symptoms as they bounce from doctor to doctor, in search of relief.
